Pictures from the Show

Thank you to everyone to came to the opening of my show at Art Brokers a few weeks ago.  The show looks great and everyone at AB did a wonderful job in every aspect of putting this show together.   I managed to get a few pictures when we arrived…..or I should say my husband Bruce did.   That’s him inspecting his favorite painting.   The show will be up officially through the end of April and unofficially through mid-May so if you haven’t been to see it yet drop in. Now its back to the studio to work on new work.   I have new...

My Continuing Love Affair with Water

My Continuing Love Affair with Water

Artists have been drawn to images of water, with its aesthetic and evocative qualities since the early cave man drawings.  There is a soothing quality to water…and evidenced based studies have shown that images of water create a calming, restful environment in healthcare settings.        I was drawn to this composition  because of the strong blue  sky  reflection in this closed in waterway near my home in Eureka.   The winter brush and spent wildflowers had an amazing depth of color to play with.   This is one of the paintings that...

Zen

Zen

Zen – 1997-2009  –  Our beloved dog Zen passed away on March 10.    Zen was a Japanese Tosa, a rare breed in this country.  He was the runt of the litter and when my husband Bruce adopted him he was suffering from parvo.   A little bag of bones weighing less  than 10 pounds, Bruce hand fed him and nursed him back to life…he lived for over 12 years.   Probably the least intimidating “attack dog” on the planet Zen always behaved like a baby would, and was not comfortable unless he had a human companion nearby to...

SUCCESS – We have a Blogsite!

Posted by on Feb 24, 2009 in Uncategorized | 0 comments

What an intensely focused few days I’ve had. Starting with the unsolicited, much appreciated and extensive help from my good friend Sheila and her husband Paul, a smart web wiz from academia, I have now successfully moved  my entire website over to this blog.  Actually Paul moved it but I helped!  Isn’t it cool? With this new site I will be able to add new images immediately and News and Events will be updated instantly instead of sporadically.  There are several ways to view the images and soon I will be adding an ecommerce...

SHOWTIME!

I have been completely enjoying fall and winter, the months I get to just paint paint paint.  It is akin to hibernating.  I travel a lot in the months from May through September but the colder months are usually spent here in Eureka where I show at my favorite local gallery, Art of Wine.  Started by some friends of mine several years ago, Art of Wine has become a beacon for many to hang out, sample wines, and enjoy some great art from local artists.  Every first Saturday of the month, Art of Wine is packed for Eureka’s Art’s...

Substrates Part II

no images were found One of my favorite new surfaces to work on is UART sanded pastel paper. Similar to Ersta, which was not ph neutral and therefore not a suitable choice, the UART has a great sanded surface that holds pastel well.  Unlike Sennelier LaCarte, which is great for slowly building glazes of color, the UART creates a painterly surface.  Many layers can be developed with thick applications.  It is a completely different way of working than with the LaCarte and I love the abillity to chance course.  Especially since I have started...

Images of Water on Different Substrates, Part I

Posted by on Feb 3, 2009 in Images of Water, Substrates, Uncategorized | 2 comments

no images were found I’ve been focusing much of my energy, in spite of the occasional detour, into exploring images of water in various settings.  Water as a theme opens up the opportunity for creative exploration as well as its metaphorical and contextual meaning.  Last week I was back in love with my LaCarte pastel card as a working surface, especially when I executed this painting of an irrigation ditch here in Eureka.  The fog was rolling in in the distance but there was still some waning sun at my back that was opening up the...

BLOG DAY AFTERNOON

Posted by on Jan 27, 2009 in "art coach", "art marketing", Humboldt County, pastel, Uncategorized | 1 comment

This is my first day of my first blog…ever.  I still have to play with all these tags and tools and settings and links and yadayadayada but for now I simply blog. Today is a great day.  My daughter is no longer in finals so I don’t have to pick her up at 12:45 from her high school like all last week, thus breaking up my work day.  Today I played with figuring this bloggie thing out and managed to get some treadmill time in too.  I had a piece in mind to start on in the studio so I headed out there and got a great start on a new...
