Zen – 1997-2009 – Our beloved dog Zen passed away on March 10. Zen was a Japanese Tosa, a rare breed in this country. He was the runt of the litter and when my husband Bruce adopted him he was suffering from parvo. A little bag of bones weighing less than 10 pounds, Bruce hand fed him and nursed him back to life…he lived for over 12 years. Probably the least intimidating “attack dog” on the planet Zen always behaved like a baby would, and was not comfortable unless he had a human companion nearby to protect him. We think our 10 year old black labrador Sara, Zen’s “little sister” , knows he is gone and in between trying to cheer everyone up by performing for us with her favorite squeaky ball, she looks for him around the house…we think she knows.
I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m sure Sara does know that Zen is gone. When I lost my yellow lab his sister kitty, Blackie, knew and grieved with me. My lab had also been adopted and he had distemper when he came to me. It was worth the fight to have him for 14 wonderful years. Wishing you well…. Patty
I am sorry to read of your loss. My dog died at age 12 on Mother’s Day this year, and his “little sister” Abbey still looks for him by where his crate used to be.
